Tell Grand Rapids: no mass surveillance

The City Commission decides whether ALPR cameras come to our streets. A few minutes of your time makes a real difference. Call, email, or show up, and ask three neighbors to do the same.

1

Contact your commissioners

Use the script and directory below. Personal, local messages matter most.

2

Show up to a meeting

The City Commission meets at City Hall, 300 Monroe Ave NW. Agendas and public-comment sign-ups are posted on the city website.

3

Spread the word

Share the camera map and facts with neighbors, and ask them to call too.

Sample script

Copy, personalize the bracketed parts, and send. Your own words are even better.

Hello, my name is [YOUR NAME] and I'm a resident of [YOUR WARD/NEIGHBORHOOD].

I'm calling to ask you to reject any contract or expansion of Flock automated license plate reader (ALPR) surveillance in Grand Rapids.

These cameras track and store the movements of every driver without a warrant, share that data with hundreds of outside agencies, and have a documented record of costly errors. They don't make us safer. They put our privacy, our immigrant neighbors, and our tax dollars at risk.

Please commit to voting against ALPR surveillance and to public oversight of any surveillance technology. Thank you.
