Deflock GRStop mass surveillance

About us

Neighbors, not subjects

Deflock Grand Rapids is a grassroots group of Grand Rapids residents, technologists, and organizers who reject mass surveillance. We believe safety comes from investing in people: housing, healthcare, mental-health response, and strong communities, not from cameras that track everyone who drives through our city.

Automated license plate readers like Flock quietly log where we go, store it for weeks or longer, and share it with hundreds of outside agencies. That data can be hacked, misused, and turned against the very neighbors it claims to protect. We think Grand Rapids can do better, and that the choice belongs to the public, not to a surveillance vendor.

Our goals are simple: document where these cameras are, tell the truth about what they do, and give every resident an easy way to be heard by the City Commission.
